Virginia Wine, in Brief

Virginia has done more than any eastern state to prove that fine wine can be made in a humid climate. From Thomas Jefferson's failed vineyards at Monticello to today's three hundred-plus wineries, the state has settled on a style built around Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Viognier, with Norton as its native red.
