Minnesota Wine, in Brief

Minnesota bred the grapes that made wine possible across the northern plains: Marquette, Frontenac, La Crescent and Itasca all came from the University of Minnesota. Its wineries, mostly within an hour or two of the Twin Cities, show what those grapes can do.

The wines are bright and fruit-forward, often off-dry, with rosé, sparkling and ice-style wines suited to the grapes' high acidity.
